Principal's Message [2]
Welcome to Winton Woods Primary North!
Dear Parents & Guardians:
May this season bring you as much hope, joy, and excitement as the last few months have brought us as your principal. Our students and teachers are engrossed in many academic activities during this first half of the year. They’ve worked tirelessly to ensure all students are receiving the best instruction possible.
During this time of the year, many people have been impacted with economic difficulties, but one thing is certain; you can always give the gift of time. Time spent asking your child how his or her day was, inquiring about what he or she learned, or taking a look at some of the work your child is engaged in are all great ways to stay involved in your child’s education.
As we continue in this season of thankfulness and celebration, let’s focus on the important things in our lives – our children. We wish you the very best and hope that this holiday season is a time for you to reconnect with the people you love.
Additionally, Primary North is continuing to improve our school climate by reducing bullying. This month we would like to share with you three types of bullying (physical, verbal and relational). We are speaking with our students about these types of behaviors through our skills streaming lessons of the roles involved in any bullying situations and what we want students to do if they find themselves in one of these roles.
Roles in a bullying situation are as follows:
· The Bully - This person is purposely trying to harm another person. People exhibiting bullying behavior need to stop such behaviors and treat others with respect. Students who continue bullying others will find themselves away from people during many of our social activities such as lunch, recess, specials, time-out rooms, and parent contact.
· The Victim - This is the person who is being harmed (either physically or emotionally). Students who experience bullying are encouraged to tell an adult in our school so that we can stop this from happening again.
· The Bystander - This is the person (or a person) who observes the bullying behavior. Students who are in this role are asked to do the following: 1) Tell the person who is bullying to stop. If they do not stop, students are asked to 2) Walk away from the situation and tell an adult so that they can stop the behavior and keep it from happening again.
We want to stop bullying in our schools! Should this happen with your child at school, please contact school personnel. We want to know about this information and we will do whatever we can to make this situation better for your child!
Sincerely,
Miss Kathryn Klei, Princpal
