Principal's Message [5]

Dear Primary North Families:

Even though March is approaching, and third quarter is coming to an end, there is still so much to be accomplished! March is a very important month at Primary North. Second graders will be taking their Terra Nova tests, first and second graders will be taking a math diagnostic assessment and all students will be monitored on their reading levels and math fact fluency. With that being said, there is still plenty of time in the school year to work hard and see great growth in all of the students. Here are some tips that you can do at home with your student to ensure that their day at school is successful.

· On Time Every Day - Regular attendance in primary school sets up a good pattern for your child. Please show your child that school comes first by making sure that they are here every day on time and ready to learn. Try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments for after school hours and on breaks.

· Picture Perfect - Great readers form mental pictures as they read. Encourage your child to develop these mental pictures in their head by reading to them without letting them see the pictures that go along with the words. Have them describe to you what their mental picture looks like and then compare it to the illustrator’s picture. This will help with their listening skills as well as their comprehension.

· Power Tips to Working with your Students at Home - There are several other ways that you can help support your child’s learning. Here are just a few:

  • Keep in contact with your child’s teacher. Having this relationship will help create an environment for your student where they know that the important adults in their life care about them and their success.
  • Ask your child’s teacher for any tips or suggestions for helping your student at home. They will be happy to give you a few ideas that can make a great difference in their education.
  • Spend a few minutes each night to go through their book bag to make sure you have seen all of the homework and handouts.

I hope that these helpful hints will help you throughout the rest of the year and years to come. If you need further assistance, do not hesitate to call our school or check out our website! Our website is updated weekly with news, events, and pictures.
